Mobile phone webquest

I’ve decided to upgrade my phone, so in today’s lesson you are going to do some research into mobile phone handsets to help me decide which model is most suitable for me.

Task One

First, listen to a short conversation where I am being asked about my requirements, and note down which functions and features are most important to me.

Listen to my podcast here:

Task Two

I’ve narrowed down my choices to the following handsets:

Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830)

HTC Desire S

HTC Wildfire S

Nokia 700

Work in pairs. One of you will research the Samsung Galaxy Ace (s5830) and the HTC

Desire S, the other will research the HTC Wildfire S and the Nokia 700.

Go to the following websites to find out more information about these handsets:

Using the criteria identified in Task One, make notes about each handset, noting any advantages and disadvantages of each model.

Task Three

Tell your partner about the two handsets you have researched. When you have information on all four handsets, compare them and decide which one is most suitable for me, based on the criteria in Task One. Be prepared to give reasons and justify your choice, using the language we have just focused on (in the handout).

Task Four

You and your partner are going to prepare a short presentation, briefly comparing the handsets and advising me which handset I should choose, giving reasons. Decide how you will structure your presentation to give both of you the opportunity to speak. Your presentation should last 3-4 minutes.

Evaluation

Now think about your participation in today’s webquest.

How easy/difficult was it to collect the necessary information?

How easy/difficult was it to compare and evaluate the different handsets?

How easy/difficult was it to express your opinions and justify them to your partner and to the whole class?

How did your English improve while you were doing this webquest?

Which areas of your English do you feel you need to work on now?
